PRE SESSION JUMPS
During the GPP phase we are looking to prepare the body for impact, when we are sprinting we are transmitting roughly 4 times our body eight through knees, feet hips and calves. With the increased volume from the summer period it’s important to condition ourselves to cope with these impacts. Starting with low level and progressing to more advanced and higher impacts throughout the winter.
This is a good time to take note how we are landing and how our foot is working on the floor. We want to be using the big toe to drive us forward and not operating on the outside of our feet. Focus should also be made on making sure we are landing flat footed as when landing on impact the development of shin splints can occur.
The jumps in the GPP Phase are extensive only. It’s important to get the body used to impacts again so that when the jumps become more intensive the body doesn’t break down. Jumping to quickly into intensive jumps will cause injury such as shin splints or worse.
